Welcome to Collins 22 Society here on nakoo.net

From very humble beginnings in 2002 the Collins 22 Society has developed into an international movement, nationally recognised as a research resource on Michael Collins. The Society has grown way beyond our initial expectations and now needs to be adjusted to meet the demands on its resources with the growth of new branches and members both domestically and internationally.

Michael Collins

Michael Collins died during Ireland's Civil War at a place called Béal na mBláth - not far from Woodfield, Clonakilty, Co. Cork where he was born just over 31 year earlier. The ambush was commanded by Tom Hales and Liam Deasy, both of whom were former friends and comrades in arms of the ‘Big Fella’. During the War of Independence, Tom Hales had undergone sadistic treatment at the hands of British Intelligence Officers rather than betray his friend Michael Collins. Liam Deasy later wrote, “When I first met Michael Collins over fifty years ago, I considered him then to be the greatest leader of our generation. I have not since changed that opinion”. A fitting epitaph.

To register for membership by post & Cheque/PO please print off the ‘attached form’on primary website and post with cheque to the address provided on the form.

Lifetime Membership subscription is a once off fee of €30 plus an annual payment of €10.00 between June 1st and Sept 30th. You will recieve a Membership Certificate and Members Pin by post, as soon as your membership has been processed Members who supply their email, will automatically be signed up for the Collins 22 Newsletter, which goes out around the 22nd of each month. The Collins 22 Society was established as a national movement Dec 6th. 2002. This decision was inspired by the dedication of the Beal na Blath commemoration committee led by Frank Metcalfe. We, like them, feared that the sacrifice of Michael Collins was being eroded from living memory, and that his legacy could be stolen from future generations.

To perpetuate the name of Michael Collins: To honour his ultimate sacrifice: To aspire to his life principles:

To actively campaign for the erection by the State of his statue in the courtyard of Leinster house by 2022 (the centenary of his death):

To extend the influence of Michael Collins by promoting an interest in his life, his work, his writings, primarily among the youth of Ireland.

Our ethos philosophically reflects that of Michael Collins. His close colleagues in the second Cumann na nGaedhael organisation. We are non-sectarian and non- denominational. Michael Collins short life offers us a vision of a healthy Society based on our God-given human dignity. END

The foregoing represents the Society’s Mission, because the prevailing ideology and value system of modern politics is failing people in so many ways.

We are a non-for-profit international organisation, and welcome support and memberships worldwide. It is our only source of funding together with the subscriptions of generous members. We acknowledge the hosting of our nights of History and Heritage by the Elected Representatives and Constituency Organisations of the Fine Gael Party
