Hi, We are the Fionn MacCumhaill Players based in the midst of the striking mountain range of Slievenamon, Co. Tipperary.

Along with Anne Williamson our director we bring theatre and drama to life in Cloneen, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

We also go on tour to various other venues where we continue to captivate the minds of audiences and leave them with a theatrical experience they love.

We work from the the Irish and local repertoire dramatics and perform well known international dramas for that balanced development of the Arts we love so much.

Thurles Greyhound Stadium

Moyne Drama Group will hold Open Auditions for their upcoming Festival Play "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" by Martin McDonagh on Friday 12th September @ 8pm and Saturday 13th September @ 2pm in Moyne Community Centre. The play will be directed by Catherine McCormack and will tour the Confined Festival Circuit in Feb/March 2015. We will be looking to cast the following: Female 40s, Female 70s, Male 40s and Male 20s.

Well done lads, enjoyed the night out in The Source at "The Kings Of Kilburn High Road".

Synopsis of play

The Kings of the Kilburn High Road is a play by Irish playwright Jimmy Murphy. First produced in Ireland in the year 2000.

Six young Irish working men emigrate to London in the early 1970s. Like so many of their generation, they spend their lives in manual labor jobs; digging ditches or construction work. They intended to stay only a little while, make some money and return home as successful men, but that day never seemed to arrive.

Now, twenty-something years later, still in London, five of them gather in the side room of a pub in an informal wake for one of them who has died. All are in their late-40s or early-50s. All but one (who had split off from the group years earlier and established a successful construction company of his own) are broken from lives of hard work and harder drinking.

The entire play takes place in one afternoon and evening at that pub, as the characters drink to their fallen friend; the only one to make it home, albeit in a coffin. Secrets are revealed and lies are uncovered. A very funny yet sad play which is very suitable for what is happening in today's social climate.

Workshops For Children

The aim of our Drama/stage workshop is to improve the necessities of life for kids. The workshop is designed for kids to teenagers. Each participant will be introduced to the skills of drama. They also become part of a little community learning social skills, becoming creative, building confidence, self esteem and learn to express themselves.

They enhance communication and English through the practice of drama. Dealing with topics and issues of today. Learning history and English becomes fun.

They take part in activities, games, and improvisational exercises. Students are then guided through collaborative group activities where they create scenes, monologues/ soliloquy's , short plays, comedy and mime.

At the end of our course we perform a play for all family and friends to see. It is rewarding to see the difference in each participant as we near the end of the course. To see a child come from being huddled behind a friend or in a corner now become radiant and bubbly.

Theatre stays with us forever. From here all participants can go and filter into their local Drama Group and who knows maybe become the next Colin Farrell. The Workshops take place every Saturday from 3-5pm

Childrens Drama Workshop Teacher - Holly Williamson

Holly has been involved in drama from an early age. Well since she could walk and talk really. She is a very enthusiastic actress with a deep love for arts. Holly has took part in many plays and musicals for different Theatre Company's.

She can be constantly seen with a script in hand, learning lines or developing her stage character she has been entrusted with. Some of her work includes "The Lonesome West" - "Sive" - "The Miser" and many more - lead parts as Calamity Jane - Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady - Lucy Harriss in Jekyll and Hyde...Sally in 'Me and My Girl' and many more...This year she plays Hodel in 'Fiddler on the Roof with St. Marys Choral Society in Clonmel.

The Name - Fionn McCumhaill

The name was taken from the mountain of Slievenamon as the highest peak is called after the famous Fionn McCumhaill hence Sui Fein or The Seat Of Fionn. We all know the stories behind the intrepid Fionn McCumaill and his ventures.

The Story Is - Fionn had all the pretty girls who had the desire to marry him race up Slievenamon. Now as he could marry only one girl whoever reached the top first would marry him.

However Fionn was very clever and told his favorite girl the short-cut. . Fionn stood on the cairn atop the mountain and gave a signal to start the race. The winner was Grainne . The origin of the mountain name can be found in Irish Mythology.

Awards

The Fionn McCumhaill Players performed "The Miser" in July 07 with Eddie Duggan taking on the lead role. It was our 8th production. A 17th century comedy set in Paris. This won the Tipp FM award for best production.

Also Ann Williamson received the Tipp FM Award for her role in"Misery" which toured to many venues in Tipperary and Kilkenny.

Our Home - Cloneen Sports and Social Club

Since our inauguration in 2003 the prestigious Cloneen Sports and Social Club have been impeccable hosts. Its a wonderful arena that holds many social events and activities throughout the year. It has ample and secure car parking which is easy accessible from the street. It holds a licence to sell alcohol so why not join us for a tipple after our show. You can meet the cast, discuss the show and maybe join in a sing song.
