Welcome to Murphys School of Motoring a family run business providing their students with the choice of Male and Female Driving Instructors.

Murphys School of Motoring is a friendly and professional Driving School with a proud record of pass rates. Established in 2003 by siblings Sharon and Ciaran Murphy both of whom are fully compliant and registered with the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor).

They are available for driving lessons six days a week, at times that are compatible with the level that each student is ready to undertake.

Nervous pupils are very welcome and will be instructed with patience and understanding.

Yes you can use your own vehicle on lessons and driving test provided it is road worthy. Thank you for your enquiry.

Car Lessons - Here at the Murphys School Of Motoring, we work in a relaxed understanding way for you to learn to drive a car safely and with complete competence. Our goal is for you to pass your test in the shortest possible time. With our experience you will be at ease from the moment you start.

Theory test information - In Ireland, since the 25th April 2001

A Driving Theory Test must be Passed before he or she can receive their first learning driver permit. The test is conducted on a computer monitor where multi-choice questions of 40 are selected at random from a variety of questions of over 1250. Make sure and study hard as 35 questions must be answered correctly to achieve a pass.

The Irish Theory Test can be arranged by phoning the following numbers:

1890 606 106 (English) - 1890 606 806 (Irish) - 1890 616 216 (Text Phone)

You can also post a completed Application Form to

Driver Theory Test Service, PO Box 788, Togher, Co. Cork

Application forms can be obtained by telephoning the DTT booking help line, at DTT test centres, driving test centers and Motor Taxation Offices. Or Download the form from:-

Application Form, Irish Driving Theory Test (PDF) - You must give your PPS number when applying.

We will then walk you through the next steps in applying for your provisional licence.

EDT Driving lessons which means Essential Driver Training which is the RSA minimum requirement for learners who got their provisional licence after April 2011.

The requirement is to take a minimum of 12 hours with an ADI instructor. This needs to be supplemented by about 100 hours of independent driving.

Don't forget to obtain your licence you must:

Be over 17 years of age
You must have passed a Theory Test in Category B in the last 2 years ( expires after 2 years ) current Theory Test FEE €45
You Must have a Medical Form Completed and Signed by your Doctor , and a new medical Form Completed and signed by your Doctor for Every Licence Renewal and New Licence upgrade
You Must have two photographs witnessed and signed/stamped in the Guards stat
You must complete and sign the completed application form and have the form signed and stamped in your Garda Station
